High-Performance Home and Building Summit Puts the Pieces ...

Energy independence has to be more than building renewable energy capacity in the United States and in Nevada, as important as that is. We have to do a better job of using the resources that we already have.

Education is the key to putting the ?energy puzzle? together and satisfying the increasingly sophisticated demands of business and residential energy consumers. The Second Annual High-Performance Home and Building Summit, scheduled for Aug. 15-17 this year at the Suncoast Hotel in Las Vegas.?

High-performance energy efficiency is evolving rapidly as commercial and residential owners seek the best incentives and technologies to increase comfort and cut costs, while utilities, nonprofits and government agencies seek to satisfy the demand for reduced and efficient energy use.

To stay on top of this rapidly growing and changing field, and the complex relationships between consumers, incentive providers, contractors, installers, real-estate agents and others, the Nevada ENERGY STAR Partners-GREEN Alliance is hosting the summit. Participation in the summit is highly recommended for anyone with an interest in reducing energy costs, buying or selling real estate, in the fields of energy generation or consumption, building inspection or construction.

?Today?s residents and business owners, expect and demand the best performance at the lowest practical cost,? said Annette Bubak, Nevada ENERGY STAR Partners-GREEN Alliance president. ?Contractors, builders and every other sector are working together to meet those expectation in order to satisfy consumers.

?At the same time, building codes are continuously raising the bar in new construction and we will offer a sneak preview of the new conservation remodel and construction codes,? Bubak said. ?The summit educates professionals so that every sector is aware of changes affecting every other aspect of the energy puzzle ? and the resident and business owner is the ultimate winner.?

The summit?s Day One will address the importance of energy efficiency to the American economy and future. Scheduled speakers include Rose McKinney James, a prominent Nevada businesswoman with leadership roles in energy efficiency and renewable energy companies, and Jeffrey Roberts, internationally known architect and president of the American Institute of Architecture-Las Vegas. Day One also will offer a panel discussion with Linda Rheinberger, Nevada Association of Realtors pas president; Nathaniel W. ?Nat? Hodgson III, president of the Southern Nevada Home Builders Association; Nelson Janes, chief executive officer of the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors; Kevin Hill, energy project manager for the Nevada State Energy Office; Pam Hilts, NV Energy energy efficiency manager; Holly Lloyd, Southwest Gas administrator; and Michael Brunson, noted Nevada appraiser.

The summit?s Day Two will bring national and local experts to focus on specific sectors of the energy efficiency picture. Scheduled speakers will include? renowned instructor, motivator and real-estate expert Terry Watson, who will provide a full-day class based on his extensive knowledge of marketing and technologies in GREEN Realty; Rich Chitwood, a trainer of trainers in energy-efficiency remodels and best-practices with energy-efficiency installations; and architect Jeffrey Roberts will present case studies in commercial programs and systems, including the upcoming 2012 International Energy Conservation Code. Other breakout sessions will include looks at new licensing and certification standards and new business models for high-performance HVAC systems, one of the fastest growing sectors of the energy efficiency industry.

Day Three will bring summit participants into the community to get a hands-on look at work, specific to the participants? needs, happening throughout Las Vegas.

?Participants will leave the summit with an understanding of how they fit into the overall picture of energy efficiency construction, marketing and remodels that have become growth industries,? Bubak said.
